My Favourite Low Syn/Calorie Snacks

I love food, I love the way it tastes, how happy it makes me, how sociable it is. I love trying food, sharing food (okay, *maybe* that’s a white lie), and discovering new things. I love food. It makes me happy, but unfortunately it also causes me to pile on the pounds, which makes me unhappy.


As some of you may know from my previous posts (see here and here), I’ve recently started Slimming World to help shift some of the excess weight I’ve put on. I chose Slimming World because it’s about everything in moderation and as a foodie, I can’t do the whole cutting out entire food groups thing. Nope.

In the 7 weeks I’ve been doing Slimming World, I’ve tried my fair share of on-plan goodies. So here are some tasty but low syn snacks that feel like a nice treat without affecting the scales.

Choc Shot

Now I’ll be honest here, this isn’t like liquid dairy milk that just so magically happens to be 1/2 a syn per teaspoon. It’s more like dark chocolate, and has a slightly bitter taste to it, I personally am not a fan of it by itself or as a topping to, say, waffles. But what it is amazing for is hot chocolate. 3 teaspoons of this mixed with your healthy A allowance on the hob makes such a nice drink that for only 1.5 syns. Which leads me to the next item on my list…


Light Spray Cream

For 1.5 syns you get 12.5g of this squirty cream, which sounds pretty measly but is actually quite a decent sized serving. I’ve been using it on top of my low-syn hot chocolates to make a really lovely 3 syn treat that tastes much naughtier. It could also be used to top waffles, with a low-syn desert, or on top of the Tesco Strawberry milk (which can be used as HEX A) to make a nice milkshake.


Fibre One Bar

I used to buy these before I did Slimming World because they’re pretty tasty and less than 100 cals – although I’m not going to lie the name does put me off quite a bit! There are other flavours in the range, I think lemon and caramel, but so far I’ve only tried the brownie version.They’re only 4 syns each so great for those times you’re after a quick chocolate fix or something a bit stodgy without straying off-plan.


Butterkist Toffee Popcorn

There are lower syn popcorn brands you can buy, but I’ve always loved the Butterkist toffee flavour. They’re only 5.5 syns for a 25g bag and perfect for sneaking into the cinema or for movie night at home.


Hartley’s 10 Cal Jelly

Jelly isn’t a snack I’d normally think to reach for but actually it’s great when you hit the afternoon slump and just want something sugary to devour. I find these pots a bit too big for one sitting, they’re huge and only 1/2 a syn for the whole pot!


Lotus Biscoff Biscuits

I used to be obsessed with Stroopwaffles (still am), they make the best addition to a cup of coffee but unfortunately those guys are not Slimming World friendly in the slightest. Something that is Slimming World friendly though, are these Lotus Biscoff biscuits which are only 1.5 syns per biscuit. They have a very distinct caramel flavour, and go beautifully with a cappucino. I picked up these twin packs in Poundland, where I got 20 packs of 2 biscuits for a quid. Which is entirely because I can’t trust myself not to devour a whole packet unless they’re already portioned out for me …the exact same reason I’m hesitant to buy the Biscoff spread (also low syn) – I just can’t trust myself not to grab a spoon and dig right in.


Tesco Cheese Balls

These cheese balls come in an 18 bag multipack with onion rings and bacon rashers, and they’re all only 5 syns. They’re great for when you just want to eat some junk, but they are quite moorish so it takes willpower not to skip straight onto the next packet.
